Endermite
hostileOurs, not the game's own: how an endermite behaves. Same on Bedrock v1.26.40.05 for health. Checked 2026-08-22, and here is how we check.
Overview
The Endermite is a hostile mob in Minecraft, which means it will attack players on sight whenever it is able to reach them.
Unlike most creatures, the Endermite does not spawn naturally in the world. 5% chance to spawn when an Ender Pearl lands. Despawns after 2 minutes unless named.
Its defining trait is simple: tiny hostile mob that attacks players.
It carries 8 health points, 4 hearts, and yields 3 experience when it dies.
Players have been encountering the Endermite since the 1.8 update.
A useful detail many players miss: Endermen prioritize attacking endermites over players.
Knowing how the Endermite behaves is mostly about survival: recognising it early and reacting correctly is what keeps a night-time excursion from ending in a respawn.
Damage by Difficulty
Spawning
5% chance to spawn when an Ender Pearl lands. Despawns after 2 minutes unless named.
That makes the Endermite a mob you create rather than discover, so planning ahead is part of obtaining one.
Since no biome generates the Endermite, you cannot farm it with a spawning floor: you have to keep its source going.
Drops
Do not expect loot from the Endermite: it has an empty drop table and yields only XP.
Because there is nothing to harvest from its corpse, the reason to engage an Endermite is almost always the experience or simply clearing it out of the way, not farming a resource.
If you are after specific items, the Endermite is not your source for them; look to mobs with populated drop tables or to mining and trading instead.
You also collect 3 experience for every Endermite you defeat.
Since there is nothing to pick up, you do not need to worry about a hopper or collection system for endermites; they leave the ground exactly as they found it.
The game rolls nothing for it when it dies, so it leaves nothing behind at all.

The Endermite does not stand alone on these numbers: the wolf on the same 8 health and the sheep at that same figure.
Endermite: 4 values straight out of Minecraft Java 26.2
Nothing in the biome spawn lists and nothing in the rolls on death names the endermite, so the numbers on this page come from one place only: the game's own entry for it in Minecraft Java 26.2sets 8 health, 2 attack damage, 0.25 movement speed and 16 blocks follow range.
| Weapon | Attack damage | Full swings |
|---|---|---|
| 4 | 2 | |
| 5 | 2 | |
| 6 | 2 | |
| 7 | 2 | |
| 8 | 1 | |

| 10 | 1 |
Coming the other way, an endermite hit is 10% of a player's 20 health, 10 of them a full bar, all out of the endermite's 2 damage on Normal. On Easy the same endermite hit is 10%, on Hard 15%, so 10 hits against 7.
Behavior & Combat
In the field, tiny hostile mob that attacks players. Endermen attack endermites on sight, making them useful for Enderman farms.
Its 8 health is 66th of 80, just under the 10 of the cow.
It can hit you for 2 on Easy, 2 on Normal and 3 on Hard, while its own 8 health (4 hearts) determines how many blows it takes to kill.
To deal with one efficiently, exploit its weaknesses: it is vulnerable to Bane of Arthropods enchantment and All damage sources.
A sword enchanted with Bane of Arthropods shortens the fight considerably against this mob.
The practical takeaway is to respect its strengths, exploit the weaknesses listed above, and you will rarely lose a fight you choose to take.

Endermite version history
2 September 2014 is the day the endermite arrived, in Minecraft 1.8, and the endermite has been part of the game for 11 years since.
3 other mobs here came with it: the rabbit, the guardian and the elder guardian. 34 of our 88 mobs are older than the endermite, 50 are younger.
Every endermite figure on this page is read from Minecraft Java 26.2 as it stands today, not from the version above.
