Allay
passiveOurs, not the game's own: where it turns up, how an allay behaves. Same on Bedrock v1.26.40.05 for health. Checked 2026-08-22, and here is how we check.
Overview
The Allay is a passive mob in Minecraft, which means it will not hunt a player down, though its attack damage is not zero, because it uses that on other mobs or in self-defence.
You will normally come across allays in the Overworld, where they appear in Pillager Outpost and Woodland Mansion.
In practice you will recognise it quickly, because collects and delivers items matching what the player gives it.
Stat-wise it sits at 20 health (10 hearts), dropping no experience on death.
Players have been encountering the Allay since the 1.19 update.
One thing worth knowing: Extremely useful for item sorting farms.
Even without combat or loot to speak of, the Allay adds character to the worlds it lives in and often plays a quiet supporting role in the wider ecosystem.
Spawning
Natural spawns for the Allay occur in Pillager Outpost and Woodland Mansion.
Found in cages in Pillager Outposts and Woodland Mansions. Does not spawn naturally elsewhere.
Naturally spawned allays will despawn over time when no player is nearby; naming one with a name tag or leading it away on a lead keeps it permanent.
The Allay does not breed, so a steady supply means going back to where they spawn instead of penning a pair up at home.

The Allay drops neither items nor experience, which is unusual: it exists purely as an ambient or utility creature rather than a resource.
The value of the Allay is in what it does while alive, its behaviour and the role it plays in the world, rather than anything you collect by killing it, so there is little reason to hunt one for materials.
If you are after specific items, the Allay is not your source for them; look to mobs with populated drop tables or to mining and trading instead.
Since there is nothing to pick up, you do not need to worry about a hopper or collection system for allays; they leave the ground exactly as they found it.
As a harmless mob, the Allay is best gathered opportunistically while you explore, and there is no danger in collecting from it, so it rarely justifies a dedicated trip.
The game rolls nothing for it when it dies, so it leaves nothing behind at all.

The Allay does not stand alone on these numbers: the sniffer on the same 0.1 movement speed and the fox on the same 2 attack damage.
Allay: 4 values straight out of Minecraft Java 26.2
Nothing in the biome spawn lists and nothing in the rolls on death names the allay, so the numbers on this page come from one place only: the game's own entry for it in Minecraft Java 26.2sets 20 health, 2 attack damage, 0.1 movement speed and 16 blocks follow range.
| Weapon | Attack damage | Full swings |
|---|---|---|
| 4 | 5 | |
| 5 | 4 | |
| 6 | 4 | |
| 7 | 3 | |
| 8 | 3 | |
| 9 | 3 | |
| 10 | 2 |
Coming the other way, an allay hit is 10% of a player's 20 health, 10 of them a full bar, all out of the allay's attack damage attribute of 2.
Behavior & Combat
Behaviourally, collects and delivers items matching what the player gives it. Likes note blocks and will drop items near them. Dances when near a playing jukebox.
At 0.1 it is 68th of 72 for speed, just above the camel at 0.09.
Its 20 health (10 hearts) comes with an attack damage attribute of 2 on paper, not because it hunts you, but because that is what its attack is worth when it does use it.
The Allay cannot be bred, so how many you end up with depends on the ways it comes into the world above, not on a breeding pen.
All told, the Allay is a low-risk part of the world that rewards patience more than aggression.
Allay commands
| Command | What it does |
|---|---|
| /summon minecraft:allay | Puts an allay on the block you are standing on. |
| /give @p minecraft:allay_spawn_egg | Hands you the allay spawn egg, so you can place allays where you want them. |
| /kill @e[type=minecraft:allay] | Removes every allay that is loaded around you. |
Entity id minecraft:allay, spawn egg minecraft:allay_spawn_egg.
Allay farm
There is no platform that produces allays. Found in cages in Pillager Outposts and Woodland Mansions. Does not spawn naturally elsewhere. Anything you build has to feed that source instead of a dark floor.
Allay version history
The allay was added in Minecraft 1.19, which came out on 7 June 2022, so the allay has been in the game for 4 years.
3 other mobs here came with it: the frog, the tadpole and the warden. 71 of our 88 mobs are older than the allay, 13 are younger.
Every allay figure on this page is read from Minecraft Java 26.2 as it stands today, not from the version above.
What Allay sounds like
Turn subtitles on and every allay sound names itself in the corner of the screen. These are the 7 lines a allay can put there, and you can play any of them yourself with /playsound minecraft:entity.allay.hurt master @p.
