In Minecraft, the Snow Golem is classified as a passive mob: it will never attack a player and simply goes about its own behaviour.
Unlike most creatures, the Snow Golem does not spawn naturally in the world. Does not spawn naturally. Built by placing 2 snow blocks vertically and a carved pumpkin on top.
Its defining trait is simple: throws snowballs at hostile mobs (deals knockback but no damage, except to Blazes).
With 4 HP (2 hearts) on its bar, killing one rewards no experience.
It was first added in 1.0.0 and has been a fixture of Minecraft ever since.
Also worth noting: Useful for distracting mobs and creating snow farms.
The reason to seek out the Snow Golem is what it leaves behind: Snowball, which is worth more than the fight it puts up.
Spawning
Does not spawn naturally. Built by placing 2 snow blocks vertically and a carved pumpkin on top.
That makes the Snow Golem a mob you create rather than discover, so planning ahead is part of obtaining one.
With no attack to worry about, the Snow Golem is something you gather rather than fight, and since it does not breed either, the number you can have depends entirely on the step that produces one.
Drops
Killing a Snow Golem produces the following loot:
Nothing here is guaranteed: a kill can give you 0 to 15 Snowballs.
These are well worth keeping. Snowballs deal 3 damage to Blazes.
With nothing guaranteed, output is swingy: over many kills the averages hold, but any single Snow Golem may give you little, so farm in volume rather than expecting a jackpot each time.
As a harmless mob, the Snow Golem is best gathered opportunistically while you explore, and there is no danger in collecting from it, so it rarely justifies a dedicated trip.

In the field, throws snowballs at hostile mobs (deals knockback but no damage, except to Blazes). Leaves a snow trail where it walks. Takes damage in hot biomes and rain.
Its 4 health is 73rd of 80, just over the 3 of the rabbit.
Dealing zero damage, the Snow Golem is one of the safest creatures to be around.
Rather than spawning on its own, this one is built by the player, so it only exists where you choose to assemble it, handy for placing defences or utilities exactly where you need them.
All told, the Snow Golem is a low-risk part of the world that rewards patience more than aggression.

There is no platform that produces snow golems. Does not spawn naturally. Built by placing 2 snow blocks vertically and a carved pumpkin on top. Anything you build has to feed that source instead of a dark floor.
Each kill is worth 0 experience and up to 15 snowballs, which is the number to scale the snow golem farm against.

17 November 2011 is the day the snow golem arrived, in Minecraft 1.0.0, and the snow golem has been part of the game for 14 years since.
4 other mobs here came with it: the mooshroom, the magma cube, the blaze and the ender dragon. Of the 88 mobs we list, 17 were in the game before the snow golem and 66 arrived after it.
The snow golem numbers here come from Java 26.2, the version running now, and not from the one that introduced it.
