Copper Golem
passiveOurs, not the game's own: how a copper golem behaves. Same on Bedrock v1.26.40.05 for health. Checked 2026-08-22, and how
Overview
In Minecraft, the Copper Golem is classified as a passive mob: it will never attack a player and simply goes about its own behaviour.
Unlike most creatures, the Copper Golem does not spawn naturally in the world. Does not spawn anywhere by itself: you build it, the way you build an iron golem.
What sets it apart is its behaviour: picks items out of one container and drops them into another, which makes it the first mob in the game that sorts a chest for you.
It carries 12 health points, 6 hearts, and yields no experience when it dies.
Players have been encountering the Copper Golem since the 1.21.9 update.
The reason to seek out the Copper Golem is what it leaves behind: Copper Ingot, which is worth more than the fight it puts up.
Spawning
Does not spawn anywhere by itself: you build it, the way you build an iron golem.
As a result, the Copper Golem never shows up during ordinary world generation or the normal mob-spawning cycle.
With no attack to worry about, the Copper Golem is something you gather rather than fight, and since it does not breed either, the number you can have depends entirely on the step that produces one.
Drops
Killing a Copper Golem produces the following loot:
Every kill yields 1 to 3 Copper Ingots.
These are well worth keeping. Wax stops the oxidation and an axe takes it back a stage, so how long your copper golem keeps moving is a choice rather than a timer.
Since every item here is guaranteed, the only variable is quantity, which makes this mob a dependable, low-variance source of what it carries.
As a harmless mob, the Copper Golem is best gathered opportunistically while you explore, and there is no danger in collecting from it, so it rarely justifies a dedicated trip.
| Item | Count | Chance | Conditions |
|---|---|---|---|
| Copper Ingot | 1 to 3 | always | Looting III up to 6 |
The same Copper Ingot comes off the drowned drops 1.

The Copper Golem does not stand alone on these numbers: the armadillo on the same 12 health.
Copper Golem: 2 items per kill over 1 drop row
A copper golem averages 2 Copper Ingot a kill on the rolls Minecraft Java 26.2 makes for it, before Looting, which puts a full stack of 64 Copper Ingot at 32 kills.

Behavior & Combat
In the field, picks items out of one container and drops them into another, which makes it the first mob in the game that sorts a chest for you. It oxidises over time and ends up standing still as a statue until you scrape it back.
At 0.2 it is 53rd of 72 for speed, just below the horse at 0.225.
It is completely harmless and deals no damage, so the only risk it poses is wandering into lava, cacti or a long fall.
All told, the Copper Golem is a low-risk part of the world that rewards patience more than aggression.
Copper Golem commands
| Command | What it does |
|---|---|
| /summon minecraft:copper_golem | Puts a copper golem on the block you are standing on. |
| /give @p minecraft:copper_golem_spawn_egg | Hands you the copper golem spawn egg, so you can place copper golems where you want them. |
| /kill @e[type=minecraft:copper_golem] | Removes every copper golem that is loaded around you. |
Entity id minecraft:copper_golem, spawn egg minecraft:copper_golem_spawn_egg.
Copper Golem farm
There is no platform that produces copper golems. Does not spawn anywhere by itself: you build it, the way you build an iron golem. Anything you build has to feed that source instead of a dark floor.
Each kill is worth 0 experience and up to 3 copper ingots, or 6 with Looting III, which is the number to scale the copper golem farm against.
Copper Golem version history
The copper golem was added in Minecraft 1.21.9, which came out on 30 September 2025, so the copper golem has been in the game for 0 years.
No other mob on this site arrived in 1.21.9, so the copper golem is the only page here that carries that version. Of the 88 mobs we list, 82 were in the game before the copper golem and 5 arrived after it.
Every copper golem figure on this page is read from Minecraft Java 26.2 as it stands today, not from the version above.
