In Minecraft, the Piglin is classified as a neutral mob: it is not hostile on sight, and its own behaviour decides when that changes: hostile unless player wears at least one piece of gold armor.

Players have been encountering the Piglin since the 1.16 update.

The Piglin sits in a useful middle ground, harmless if you respect it, but a real threat if you provoke it, which makes reading the situation important.
Damage by Difficulty
Spawning
Piglins spawn in Nether Wastes, Crimson Forest, and Bastion Remnant.
Your best bet is to head straight for Crimson Forest, since that is where it turns up most reliably out of the handful of biomes it favours.
Spawns in the Nether in groups of 2-4.
Being a Nether mob, it ignores the Overworld's darkness rules and can spawn regardless of light level within its home biomes, which makes the Nether dangerous even in well-lit areas.
They tend to arrive in clusters of 2-4 rather than alone, so expect to meet more than one at a time.
All three places it spawns, Nether Wastes, Crimson Forest, and Bastion Remnant, lie in the Nether, so a portal comes before anything else.
Whether one leaves you alone is not up to you alone: hostile unless player wears at least one piece of gold armor.
Where the Piglin spawns
Crimson Forest is where it stands strongest: weight 5 on the monster list and 33.3% of it, arriving 3 to 4 at a time. There it shares the list with Hoglin at 9 and Zombified Piglin at 1, 15 weight together, of which 5 is piglin. It also turns up in Nether Wastes at 8.9%.

Drops
When killed, the Piglin drops no items at all; its only reward is experience.
Because there is nothing to harvest from its corpse, the reason to engage a Piglin is almost always the experience or simply clearing it out of the way, not farming a resource.
If you are after specific items, the Piglin is not your source for them; look to mobs with populated drop tables or to mining and trading instead.
You also collect 5 experience for every Piglin you defeat.
Since there is nothing to pick up, you do not need to worry about a hopper or collection system for piglins; they leave the ground exactly as they found it.
The game rolls nothing for it when it dies, so it leaves nothing behind at all.

Turned around, 3 unblocked piglin hits empty a player's 20 health, 40% of the bar at a time, which is what the piglin's 8 damage on Normal buys it. On Easy the same piglin hit is 25%, on Hard 60%, so 4 hits against 2.
Behavior & Combat
In the field, hostile unless player wears at least one piece of gold armor. Barters when given Gold Ingots. Hunts Hoglins. Adults attack players who open chests or mine gold.
At 0.35 it is 13th of 72 for speed, just above the rabbit at 0.3.
On the offensive it deals 5 on Easy, 8 on Normal and 12 on Hard, and you will need to chew through 16 health (8 hearts) to bring one down.
To deal with one efficiently, exploit its weaknesses: it is vulnerable to Fire and Becomes Zombified Piglin in the Overworld.
The Piglin cannot be bred, so the only way to get more is to find them spawning naturally in their home biomes.
As long as you avoid landing the first blow, you can usually go about your business near a Piglin without trouble.

Piglin farm
A piglin farm copies the rule the game already uses for piglin spawns. Spawns in the Nether in groups of 2-4.
Crimson Forest is where the piglin has the biggest slice of the roll, 33.3% across the 2 lists the piglin appears on, and that is the biome to build a piglin farm in.
3 to 4 piglins arrive per roll, so give the piglin platform width instead of stacking it.

The piglin was added in Minecraft 1.16, which came out on 23 June 2020, so the piglin has been in the game for 6 years.
3 other mobs here came with it: the hoglin, the zoglin and the strider. That puts the piglin behind 63 of the 88 mobs here and ahead of 21.
