Zombified Piglin
neutralOurs, not the game's own: how a zombified piglin behaves. Bedrock v1.26.40.05 differs: spawn weight 1 on most Java biome lists (it runs from 1 to 100) against 100 on Bedrock. Checked 2026-08-22, and how
Overview
A Zombified Piglin is a neutral mob: it ignores players until it is provoked, and only then turns aggressive.
Zombified Piglins make their home in the Nether, turning up in Nether Wastes, Crimson Forest, and Nether (all).
What sets it apart is its behaviour: neutral until one is attacked, then all nearby Zombified Piglins swarm.
With 20 HP (10 hearts) on its bar, killing one rewards 5 experience.
The Zombified Piglin has been part of the game since version Alpha v1.2.0.
Also worth noting: They forgive after 20-40 seconds.
The Zombified Piglin sits in a useful middle ground, harmless if you respect it, but a real threat if you provoke it, which makes reading the situation important.
Damage by Difficulty
Spawning
Natural spawns for the Zombified Piglin occur in Nether Wastes, Crimson Forest, and Nether (all).
Your best bet is to head straight for Nether Wastes, since that is where it turns up most reliably out of the handful of biomes it favours.
Spawns in the Nether in groups. Can also spawn from Nether Portals in the Overworld or when a pig is struck by lightning.
Being a Nether mob, it ignores the Overworld's darkness rules and can spawn regardless of light level within its home biomes, which makes the Nether dangerous even in well-lit areas.
Naturally spawned zombified piglins will despawn over time when no player is nearby; naming one with a name tag or leading it away on a lead keeps it permanent.
As a neutral creature it leaves you alone until disturbed, so careful movement lets you share its space without a fight.
Where the Zombified Piglin spawns
Nether Wastes is where it stands strongest: weight 100 on the monster list and 59.5% of it, arriving 2 to 4 at a time. There it shares the list with Ghast at 50, Piglin at 15, Magma Cube at 2 and Enderman at 1, 168 weight together, of which 100 is zombified piglin. It also turns up in Crimson Forest at 6.7%.
| Biome | Weight | Share | Group |
|---|---|---|---|
Nether Wastes | 100 | 59.5% | 4 |
Crimson Forest | 1 | 6.7% | 2 to 4 |
- Inside a fortress the biome list is replaced: weight 5 there, 17.9% of the monster list, in groups of 4.
It does not have that fortress list to itself: the skeleton at weight 2, the magma cube at weight 3, the blaze at weight 10 and the wither skeleton at weight 8.
Drops
Killing a Zombified Piglin produces the following loot:
Nothing here is guaranteed: a kill can give you 1 Rotten Flesh, 1 Gold Nugget, and 1 Gold Ingot (rarely, 2.5% chance).
You also collect 5 experience for every Zombified Piglin you defeat.
Farming zombified piglins is the standard way to stockpile rotten flesh in quantity.
With nothing guaranteed, output is swingy: over many kills the averages hold, but any single Zombified Piglin may give you little, so farm in volume rather than expecting a jackpot each time.
| Item | Count | Chance | Conditions |
|---|---|---|---|
| Rotten Flesh | 0 to 1 | not every kill | Looting III up to 4 |
| Gold Nugget | 0 to 1 | not every kill | Looting III up to 4 |
| Gold Ingot | 1 | 2.5% | player kill |

The Zombified Piglin shares this stretch of the scale: the wither, whose 40 follow range has nothing we list nearer than this 35.
Zombified Piglin: 1% of its category, rank 32 of 52
On 2 of the 66 biome lists (2 spawn entries in total), and 1% of every spawn the game puts in its monster group is a zombified piglin.
A zombified piglin averages 0.5 Gold Nugget a kill on the rolls Minecraft Java 26.2 makes for it, before Looting, which puts a full stack of 64 Gold Nugget at 128 kills. Rotten Flesh comes in at 0.5 per zombified piglin, so 128 kills before that stack is full. 1 further row sit under those, down to 0.025 Gold Ingot per zombified piglin and 2560 kills a stack. 1 of those 3 rows (Gold Ingot) only roll when a player lands the killing blow, so a zombified piglin killed by a fall or another mob averages 1 item instead of 1.025.

The 2 armour points on a zombified piglin are already in that column: they cut a 4 damage swing to 3.68, worth 1 extra swing at the cheap end, and 3 rather than 2 at the expensive one. On the receiving end a zombified piglin takes 40% off a player's 20 health per hit, so 3 of them land the kill; that share is the zombified piglin's 8 damage on Normal. On Easy the same zombified piglin hit is 25%, on Hard 60%, so 4 hits against 2.
Behavior & Combat
Behaviourally, neutral until one is attacked, then all nearby Zombified Piglins swarm. Always carries a Golden Sword. Immune to fire and lava.
It is one of the few mobs that wears armour: 2 points, which takes about 8% off every hit it receives.
It can hit you for 5 on Easy, 8 on Normal and 12 on Hard, while its own 20 health (10 hearts) determines how many blows it takes to kill.
To deal with one efficiently, exploit its weaknesses: it is vulnerable to Smite enchantment and Healing splash potions.
A sword enchanted with Smite shortens the fight considerably against this mob.
The Zombified Piglin cannot be bred, so how many you end up with depends on the ways it comes into the world above, not on a breeding pen.
Fire is no use against it by its own account, so what is left is the undead rule: a splash of Healing wounds it, a Potion of Harming would repair it, the 2 armour points it wears do nothing about either one, and a Smite V sword puts 12.5 extra damage into every swing at its 20 health.
Native to the Nether, it is completely immune to fire and lava, so burning strategies that work elsewhere are useless here.
As long as you avoid landing the first blow, you can usually go about your business near a Zombified Piglin without trouble.

Zombified Piglin farm
Build a zombified piglin farm around the one rule the game applies to every zombified piglin. Spawns in the Nether in groups. Can also spawn from Nether Portals in the Overworld or when a pig is struck by lightning.
Of the 2 biome spawn lists the zombified piglin stands on, Nether Wastes gives the zombified piglin its largest share at 59.5%, so a zombified piglin platform there fills faster than the same build anywhere else.
2 to 4 zombified piglins arrive per roll, so give the zombified piglin platform width instead of stacking it.
Each kill is worth 5 experience and up to 1 rotten flesh, or 4 with Looting III, which is the number to scale the zombified piglin farm against.
Zombified Piglin version history
Minecraft Alpha v1.2.0 brought the zombified piglin in on 29 October 2010, 15 years of zombified piglin by now.
One other mob here came with it: the ghast. Of the 88 mobs we list, 10 were in the game before the zombified piglin and 76 arrived after it.
The zombified piglin numbers here come from Java 26.2, the version running now, and not from the one that introduced it.
